I recently purchased a semi-sporterized Type 99 arisaka on GunBroker, and want to turn it into a deer rifle. The front sight protective ears have been ground off, so there's no hope of keeping it...

czechmate82,Welcome to the forumI have a T38 but not a T99, so can't really help you a whole lot. Mine was already modified when I bought it at an estate auction, so I felt no guilt in bending the...

Thanks for your reply. I haven't actually received it yet in the mail...should be here any day now. I'll have to order some ammo from Grafs or MrNambu so I can take it out. The gunshows here in south...

Since it has already been sporterized but you don't know to what extent, you might want to have the chamber slugged to see what it is. A couple of years ago, a fellow next to me at the range kept...

Thanks for your reply. I'm glad to see the Type 99 sporter bug biting someone else too. I might be able to use the stock it comes with, but if not, I'll definitely be buying one of those factory...

The rifle showed up today. The rifle serial number and bolt match (XX569). The blue finish is not the 90% promised, but more like 40%. I'll reblue it before I finish with it at some point. The bore,...

I have not recieved by bolt back yet and I have not reblued the rifle yet. The top pic gives you an idea of the sight picture with the williams mount. The bottom pic gives you a view of the "factory...

The pictures of your project rifle are drool worthy. I really like that stock...how did you finish it? Looks like a maple finish. I may have to spring for the "seconds" stock after all. I really like...

This stock was Claro Walnut grade A or AA I can't remember. The marbleing you see is the grain of the wood. I used standard walnut stain and just Birchwood Casey Tru-oil. I put a thin coat on, let it...

I was wrong...my barrel is chrome-plated. I finally cleaned the barrel last night with three different cleaners (looked like dirt/dust stuck on) and finally got it 99% clean. I looked down the barrel...

Yea, I wish I could take credit for the wood. Richards uses that Claro walnut which has that marble like grain and it finishes easy, makes me look better than I am. That K31 had a beech stock that was...

Plunkt, what scope did you put on your Arisaka? I see it's variable power, but I don't see a brand. I'm thinking of putting a Pentax Gamemaster 6X fixed on mine...it runs about $100 at Midway. I'm new...

Plunkt, I thought of another question. Did you have to use the "shim pack" for the williams mount? The Brownell's website says you need to use the "shim pack." Just a question I thought of. Thanks.

Re: sporterizing Type 99 arisaka...well, finishing it anyway...

Nope I did not need the shim pack. I think enfields and some others do but my type 99 was fine without it.
